Man City Deny Reports Of ‘Preliminary Contract Talks’ With Kyle Walker.

Reports of preliminary talks over a new contract between Manchester City and mainstay right-back Kyle Walker have been denied, according to a report.

The 32 year-old is into his sixth season at the home of the current Premier League champions, having played an integral role in Pep Guardiola’s success at the Etihad Stadium since becoming the club’s head coach in the summer of 2016.

In that time, Walker has managed to secure four Premier League titles in the last five seasons, complimented by four League Cup triumphs and a further FA Cup and Community Shield success.

With his current Etihad Stadium contract set to expire at the end of next season, there have been some suggestions that Manchester City could entertain talks over an extension to his contractual agreement.

However, a new report has shutdown such suggestions, indicating that no such conversations are underway at this stage of a campaign in which Pep Guardiola and his players are firmly focussed on the on-field tasks at hand.

That is according to the information of Rob Dawson of ESPN, who reports that sources close to Manchester City have now denied reports that ‘preliminary talks’ are underway to extend Kyle Walker’s contract beyond the summer of 2024.

The ongoing season has seen the emergence of serious competition to Walker’s role as a mainstay right-back option for Pep Guardiola, with 18 year-old Rico Lewis having played a significant amount of matches since the return of club football post-World Cup.

The Manchester City academy product has offered a very different dimension to the way in which Pep Guardiola sets up his back-four, inverting into the midfield and sitting alongside Rodri in the line-ups defensive midfield when in possession.

The expectation is that Lewis will sign a brand new contract with Manchester City in the coming weeks and months, as club officials look to offer him significant rewards both financially and contractually as a result of his rise within the club’s first-team set-up.
