National TEIN Coordinator for NDC arrested for Fraud

National TEIN Coordinator for NDC arrested for Fraud.

The National Coordinator of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), David Derry is in the grips of the police at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for alleged fraud.

Ghnewslab.com gathered that the NDC executive was arrested following complaints he defrauded some female students to the tune of about GH¢8,000 under the guise of securing them hostel accommodation.

This was after fruitless efforts to have him fulfill his part of the bargain which led the victims into reporting the matter to the Dean of Students at KNUST who in turn reported it to the police leading to his arrest and detention since Monday, September 16, 2019.

David Derry was appointed the NDC’s National TEIN Coordinator in February 2019 after completing his term as the TEIN President of KNUST.

Sources revealed that police are determined to charge him for the offence and arraign him before court while there are efforts within the party in the Ashanti Region to secure bail for him.

Authorities of the KNUST have declined comment on the matter when reached except to say the matter is currently being handled by the police who also revealed they are indeed investigating him for an offence relating to fraud.

Pure Fm’s Evans Bonsu who has been following the story disclosed accommodation has become one of the major challenges confronting the KNUST administration as the authorities try to work assiduously to find on and off campus accredited hostels for freshmen and continuing students.

The Varsity has since its reopening warned students and parents through communiques and media release to beware of fraudsters who pose as agents to assist them in getting a hostel access.
